ROODEPOORT TRANSPORT PLAN
The intention of the Transport Plan of the inner city of Roodepoort was to rationalise the chaotic traffic of the area.
Based on traffic studies, counts and engagements with the public transport stakeholders that included the taxi industry, the strategic plan focussed on the Roodepoort train station, one of the busiest stations in Johannesburg, which was decongested by proposing a public forecourt and clear movement patterns that allowed the pedestrians to move unimpeded and trade to flourish.
Several key precincts were identified based on its function, usage and public profile that allowed for individual strategies to be applied that was brought together by overall transport plan that allowed for free movement of traffic both ,vehicular and pedestrian.
